You should think about what kind of things can be replaced cheaper than the cost of hauling them. My buddy recently went from WA to PA and he dumped all kinds of stuff (including an old piano he had and a couch) because the cost to buy new ones in PA was cheaper than having to have the big truck.
Also see if there are friends you know with trucks that are willing to drive with you for the cost of gas and food or something. Two or three hundred bucks to them instead of a grand for a truck. Plus you get a free moving partner.
And, finally, tossing a bunch of shit sounds hard, but it's very liberating; especially when you're trying to make a fresh start.
