I don't know if you'd appreciate this, but here goes. My roommate plays trombone. We were jamming one day, when he runs to the sink to empty out his spit valve. Trombones, like all brass instruments collect condensation, which needs to be periodically expunged from the instrument via a spit valve. It looks kinda disgusting.
Now, as you might know, (Former) Commander William Ryker also plays trombone. In the fuuuuture, I wondered, does Number One have a spot on his carpet where he empties out his spit valve, or has technology come up with a way to keep condensation from building up within his trombone?
The roommate comes back, and catches me in a state of meditative ponderance. "What're you thinking about?" he asks. I stop and recount my thoughts. I reply, "Uhm. Nothing."
