As you all know, I'm a longtime writer and recently have been writing a lot more about art. I was curious if anyone else here writes much about art. What are your favorite topics in the art world to read and write about?
Here are some of my recent stories …

hey all new here. I try to write a lot, sometimes it works other times it's shit. Writing a book now, a few of my freinds seem to like it, but I'm not sure about it, mainly writing it to get out my own shit.
Welcome to the group. The last thing you wrote really hit home. Like you, I write for myself. I write the kinds of things I'd like to read. I wrote a screenplay for a movie that I'd like to see. Of course, I'd love the ultimate product, book or movie, to reach other people (and for me to get paid), but I can't really count on that. I write (and I suppose it's the same for you) because I enjoy writing and because it's what I'm compelled to do.
It is up to the writer to please the reader
My first instinct was this. Bullshit, my writing is my art, not the readers. Personally I do not want to read …

well...u are writing for someone to read it correct. You want someone to come back for more. so I think its partly true.
No. If you write for someone to read then it is something that you'll have to do your entire career.
You write to tell a story, to be true to the story and tell it as it needs to be told. As writers, we have a hard enough time staying true to the narrative and adding in making it readable by the masses just hinders you more. You have to be content in writing and not being read. Staying true to yourself and the story is what you have to do. Doing it for the money is selling out and that's never good. That's a hack.

is writing a book for money/to please your readers selling out? of course not. writing is not some high, magical, untouchable art that is sullied by commerce. writing is a craft and does not require divine inspiration or speshulness. if an author wants to write books that he/she knows the public is going to enjoy and will sell well, why not? to claim that certain works are "better" because they are not focused on the public/mainstream is elitist and narrowminded.
Can't seem to find a post about this, so sorry if this is a repeat!!!!
What does everyone do to overcome this nightmare, I have been struggling for far too long!
I'm somewhat of a perfectionist with my writing, especially because they're lyrics, and I just can't shake this block!!!
I have a buddy that I've been doing writing skype sessions with. I've never been big on writing groups before - they seemed to be more of a distraction than anything else. Having someone who isn't physically present but who is still therein the background, also writing, is a nice incentive to focus and write *something* even if it's terrible, and that's been extremely effective for me lately. Hard to dick around and check twitter too much when someone is going to hold you accountable for it :)
Sometimes the best cure for writers block is to write something else completely
I am working on comic scripts for my art. its a bit rough lol
I wake up in the middle of the night. I wish I could go back to sleep, and I will, but not before I eat an apple, do some yoga, listen to a side A, and paint something that swirls.
