The worst thing about 9/11 is that its my brother-in-law's birthday so when everyone else is holding silent vigils we are partying it up. Makes for some very interesting looks. As for my opinion of television, it couldn't be any lower. I remember when I was a kid the children's programming was excellent but now the crap they put on tv just teaches kids to be, well, whiny little pricks. My son is 12 and the crap he watches on tv seriously blow's my mind. Finally couldn't stand it so much I got rid of tv, though I do have Netflix. Mainstream media just feeds everyone bullshit half truths that just infuriate me. Quick example my dad told me proves my whole point. When he was in college he worked for the local media filming a protest. About fifteen people showed up for the protest but they waited to film the clip until in-between classes. They then filmed and said I quote " There were over 700 students on the green during the time of the protest". While technically true just another way media skews everything, and that happened 40 years ago. I'd like to think things have gotten better since then but sadly I think they have gotten worse. I could rant for hours on this subject but I wont. Already ranted enough I think. Have a wonderful day and stay positive.

-Why are 16 year old girls getting pregnant and going on TV? Because people watch it. -Why is stupidity highlighted for entertainment? Because people watch it. -How can talentless people contribute to our personal lives? They make people feel better about themselves by comparison. "look how stupid they are, glad I'm not like that!" -Are people taking television too seriously? Unquestionably. If you depend on the tv for your daily intake of news and events, your views are slanted by the views of the stations you watch. -What do the news messages portray to the public or those with access? They portray what their stations wants them to. Liberal, conservative, socialist, etc. -Does TV and what a person views as entertainment reflect certain attitudes? There is certainly a greater focus on reality shows, because people love to get caught up in the "drama" of it. -What is considered acceptable television by today's standards should not be the same. Not sure what you mean here. -How does media and television relate to those without access? In this day and age (assuming in America), if you don't have access to media or tv, it's because you don't want to.

I don't mean to get off on a rant here, but I am really getting sick of reality television from the apprentice to the bachelor I just can't stand to watch it anymore. Is this what television has come to? Someone told me the other day that 70% of television is reality television . Within the next 2 years expect it to be...

My contribution to Journal Poetry Day is Gil Scott- Heron's "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" (I'm still in a revolutionary mood like last week; and no, I didn't write that one last week! That was Alix Olson. Check out her website. She is righteous.).

In my profile description, in the television section, I indicated that I really liked their album "Marquee Moon", as a joke for sure since I do not watch television, but also to say that I really like this band.

But, yesterday, Tom Verlaine died, hence this title.

I am not starting to watch television, but I will continue for a very long time to listen...
