I've recently been sort of put in charge of the garden belonging to the gardening/ food justice group at my school. The only problem is my gardening knowledge consists of some container gardening on my patio last year. It was a pretty impressive and successful container garden, but I'm still …

How much space do you have?

How much money can you spend?

Do you have easy access to compost and mulch?

Is it a raised bed? If not, what kind of soil are you using for your garden?

Books are great and definitely read books but planting season is quickly approaching. I don't know if you'll have time to work with seeds so you'll have to figure out what you can afford if you have to rely on transplants.

A garden in Northumbria blooms poison. Well, it is a poison garden after all, but what grows there might not be considered poisons at all.

Cannabis, opium poppies, magic mushrooms and coca - the source of cocaine - all feature at the centuries-old Alnwick Garden. [...]

Maybe we should take a few of the "societally acceptable" professional pushers from Squib, Eli Lily, Pfizer and your local doctor's office/hospital on this tour...

funny almost the same thing was in the news a few weeks back when a elderly british lady got in trouble because her herbarl garden and park didn't include just harmless plants.
they felt it was a bad example to publicly plant marihuana and stuff like that.

Just google xeriscape. The whole "no water gardening" thing has been big in the last couple of years no? I thought Arizona and Australia were the epicenters of that style of gardening. Googling images for xeriscape brings up some really beautiful gardens.

Roses do do very well out here, I already have a yellow tea and a lavander, looking for a black jade or black barracca. Xeriscaping is very popular here, but also very expensive. Theres quite a few on my street and some look really awesome, so I'm not against the idea, but as for mine, I'm only renting the house so I don't want to put too much capital into it, and I already have a drip system set up, so I can just add onto it and still use a little bit of water. alot less water than if I were maintaining a lawn or pool, maybe a gallon or 2 per day.

I don't mean to sound like I'm shooting everyones ideas down, I do think about them.

Poor Gardeners

Today I have determined that Unmonks make poor gardeners. I was working on trimming my front hedge yesterday and came upon a nest of birds.

Status of birds: A Okay

Status of hedge: Ridiculously half trimmed

Status of front garden: Weedy

Status of conscience: Clear

Perhaps I might become a better gardener if I think of my garden as an entity itself and...
