OI!
So I am sitting in a backpacker (hostel) in Aukland, New Zealand right now.
I am a zombie, because I just spent around 24 hours traveling over here. I
departed from Cairns yesterday at about seven in the morning still
noticeably drunk from the night prior, and felt like hammered dog shit. It
was to the point of me contemplating to scratch my flight, and pay another
700 AU to go to NZ another day. I was in a living hell. I got to the
airport in cairns and got to talk to the fam for an hour or so, which was
great, then I tried to buy some Hungry Jack's (burger king), and it was
taking too long, so I boarded the plane. Of course considering my travel
record in Australia thus far, I knew it was gonna be a rough flight on top
of my hangover. I have been vomited on by kids eating chips multiple times,
and on another bus a woman sat next to me and chatted me up, and Id bet my
life that she had a load of shit in her britches. Of course I get the only
family of fat people who blocked me into my window seat on this plane, and
breathed more loud and heavy than the jet engine outside my window. I knew
that it was gonna be rough, if I had to puke in the teaspoon sized sick bag
they gave me. Somehow I fell asleep, smashed up against the window, and got
to Brisbane in one piece. I ate about a pound of advil and hauled all of my
bags (which have gotten considerably larger and heavier)to the international
terminal. Upon arriving there, i found that my flight had been delayed for
ten hours, and they wouldn't check my bags until an hour before my flight,
so I couldn't go to brisbane and enjoy the sights and food for the day. It
was kind of nice living in the airport. i got a lot of stupid writing done,
and i fell asleep on this couch for hours. I woke up to an irish girl
telling me that they are letting people check their bags early, so I got rid
of my bags, and chilled with her for a couple of hours. She lived in san
francisco, and lived a block away from dan and I for a couple of years. She
also dated a dude that worked at the cat club that is covered in tattoos.
Small world, man. I finally got onto the flight, and got into aukland at
about 330am, at which i found a couch in the termianal and slept for
the "night". I am now waiting for a bus that departs in an hour for a place
called tauranga. Zeke and Esan are going to pick me up there in a van that
they rented for the three of us. He spelled the name of the town wrong in
the email, so I am thinking that this is the right town, and after I four
hour bus ride, i am really hoping so, because if it ain't, im gonna be
really really bummed out.
The last week was a great time. I spent it with Nick in Cairns which is a
tropical city on the Great Barrier Reef. Nick and I were really jam packed
with a ton of shit to do, so we didn't get out that much. The first few
days we were there, we were in school for getting our PADI certification for
open water diving. It was all really easy and fun, due to our comfort level
in the water. Others had a lot of trouble. The class was filled with
people from germany, brazil, ireland, canada, australia, and TEXAS. Our
teachers were a lot of fun and pretty nice. Once we got on the water it was
pretty sick. The water was out of this world, and the visibility was 20-30
meters. The boat was really nice, and our facilities were great. We spent
a lot of time in the water, getting briefed on the dives, and eating tea and
cake. I thought that I was going to have a lot more downtime, but that
definatly wasn't the case. We had two dives the first day, four the second,
and two on the third. We stepped it up a notch and got into an advanced
class once we were on the boat that took us on a night dive, a deep dive (30
meters), and a photography dive. The advanced course had nick, me, and
another nick in it. The instructor was super stoked, and took us to a bunch
of spots that he does on recreational dives, rather than the dives that we
were supposed to do for the class. I saw a ton of different marine life,
that Ill tell everyone all about, but the things that stand out would be a
1.5/2 meter queensland grouper, a sea turtle with the shell as big as a
dining room table (no bullshit, it was massive, and it was at night), a big
morey eel, a bunch of sharks, stingrays, dolphins, box jellyfish, and both
nick and I got attacked by a titan triggerfish. I got a jellyfish sting on
my face on the third day too, so that brings the animal inflicted harm
incidents on my body to like four or five for the trip. Ive only got about
four more lives I think, so hopefully they will last me for two weeks. Im
not sure how ill do, considering im gonna be surfing again and be in a turbo
diesel van in a land that is famous for ridiculously crative ways to risk
your life. Im looking at a brochure for a bungee jump down in queenstown
from 134 meters up. You are suspended from a wire in the middle of a canyon
then they cut you loose. Ill be sure to take a self video of that jump so
everyone can see me cry and get an erection at the same time. For some
people on the email list, it won't be the first time. I gotta take care of
some buisness here, so I gotta cut this email short. Ill be back in a
couple of weeks, and ill see everyone then. I am already looking forward to
where Im gonna go when I get back. After about a million burrios I think Im
gonna leave for some cold weather for snowboarding, a show that I am stoked
to see up in the City, and then Mardi Gras with the bros. This year we're
definatly going to get stupid tattoos to commemorate the trip. I love
everyone, and Ill talk to everyone very soon.
cheers,
Justin
ps. my phone isn't being cool to me, and letting me unlock it for the sim
card that I bought here, but the number is 02102484687. Im hoping to have
it up and running within the day.
