Wow. I'll never again tell myelf my journal entries are too long.
Very interesting, though.
I used to use primary sources in HS on papers as much as possible, too. It's quite the challenge (was really hard then without transfer of infor via the webernet and all. Searching through papers and journals and microfilms and microfiche and microdots - oh wait - we didn't search through microdots we searched FOR them and ate them.
Anyway, you stumped me. What does Jack White have to do with Proter Wagoner?????
I've got 2 White Stripes shows and 3 Raconteur sets from when they toured with Dylan, and of course I've listened to Proter my whole life, but I somehow missed the connection. Did Jack do a Porter song? Publicly praise him? Did the Paparazzi get pics of himm sucking Porter's Waggin'-er?
beth ditto from the gossip is my favorite lesbian on the planet. i love her!!
also: what do mean you haven't listened to much porter wagner? next you'll tell me you haven't discovered conway twitty or george jones. WHAT KIND OF COUNTRY FAN ARE YOU, ANYWAY?!?!?!
Yeah - as I posted in your journal I was searching for "porter wagoner jack white" and read some cool reviews. Also saw that Nick Cave and his new band were on the bill.
I remember the Porter Wagoner show when I was younger. I always loved his voice and delivery, but remember as a kid the disillusionment withthe string sections and popness of the arrangements, not just on his show but on variety shows in general. It was like watered-down talent. There was too much of an overorchestration trend in country beginning somewhere in the 50s, flourishing in the 60s and 70s, never really going away, and continuing to rear its lackluster head even more in tandem with the 90s Rise of Country Radio.
I think that's the kind of thing that turns off so many to country, inspiring them to miss out on so much good music.
Fortunately, my Dad helped me see through the strings to the Soul.
