So Occupy Philly has turned into a nightmare. The anarchists essentially control the whole governing body at this point, its just not worth fighting for a democratic body of maybe 20-40 participants that has no authority and has yet to make a lasting decision. The majority of people there are now the homeless. It looks like a refugee camp... seriously.
They're supposed to move so that workers can come in and make City Hall handicap accessible. The anarchists see complying with the city as weakness, so they engineered a vote to stay (huge fight over that, but whatever). Of course, as soon as they got an actual order of eviction, they panicked, fled across the street, were rebuffed by police and ended up where they started but in complete confusion. That was something of a breaking point.
A group called Reasonable Solutions, former members of the Media/PR work-group that I was in, has taken it upon themselves to discuss plans to move with the city. In fact, here's the core members signing for another permit with the city. Currently there's work to connect Reasonable Solutions with other Occupy movements to give the more rational centrists the ability to work together (so far there are a surprising number of takers). The anarchists are calling them "right-wing men" and "opponents in this political struggle for justice, freedom, and democracy." It's nuts. Here they are signing the new permit. I hope this is a turning point.
Met a girl at Occupy Philly, looked like Chloe Sevigny. She was a gogo dancer. She wanted to exchange numbers, but it didn't mean what I was thinking, lol. Kinda cool, seemed distant. Apparently the day after I met her she went home and tried to kill herself. That's some fucked up shit right there... sort of represents the odd atmosphere at Occupy right now.
