The Sex Pistols live in 2008...
Yes, it happened yesterday night here in my town, they were the headliner of one of the five days of a Summer open-air festival. The entrance was free, so about 10.000 people gathered in a muddy park (it had rained the whole day) to see the original UK punks on stage.
The bill also featured two lame Italian bands and the mighty Wire, who were absolutely the best, they played only about 45 minutes, but it was great! Three guys and a woman in their early 50s showed what it means to play, performing songs from their recent release "Object 47", the previous "Send" and "Read & Burn", as well as some older classics from their first legendary three albums, "Pink Flag", "Chairs Missing" and "154".
Then, it was time for The Pistols: Steve Jones is the fattest man I've ever seen, he's 50 but looks like a 65 years old alcoholist, Glen Matlock looks like a good boy from the late 60s', Paul Cook a nice old chap, and Johnny Rotten is probably the only still showing a certain energy.
They played mostly songs from "Nevermind The Bollocks", obviously, but also covers (their classic versions of "Steppin Stone" and "No Fun", as well as Hawkwind's "Silver Machine" and Modern Lovers' "Road Runner"!). It was like one should expect from the Sex Pistols: bad executions, bad vocals, pull-the-leg attitude, etc.
Fortunately, as I said before, the entrance was free
