Seems like decades ago when my aunt and I played The Sims 2. I mean I loved Maxis for Sim City and eventually Spore, but it was clear that EA wanted more Sims games so they could make more money.
Each one though had their fair share of mods to add content or just to change how the game behaved and well.. Maxis always seemed to work against some of those mod makers.
Kotaku mentioned one of them last year.. WickedWoohoo and how there's a big community of simmers that support this type of adult mod.
Kotaku is at it again, promoting the adult sim mod site, so i had to take a look.
I really hate The Sims 4 because it's trash compared to The Sims 3.. but after looking at this community and just how much larger it has become since the last time Kotaku featured them.. I don't even know. Is the game that boring that this type of thing needed to exist to make the game interesting or is it just that people finally have the mod they wanted, I mean I've always wanted an adult version of The Sims.. but this.. this is too much like real life.
I like the sims for being an escape from all the various details... this just seems like people trying way too hard to make the game something completely different. Like yeah all this is probably interesting for the small subset of people that want it but.. it seems to all be so specifically male fantasy orientated. Male + Female or Male + Females. And then many variations there upon. I'm almost disgusted by the detail of the fantasies all of these poor innocent sims are being forced to bring to life.
The one feature though that caught my attention in the article (and can't even locate it on the site) is the idea that the sims could have relationships and sex on their own. They can, but what's intended if for it to me more organic and realistic. Admittedly I stopped playing the game years ago and just try to keep a copy of TS3 and TS4 on my computer ready to launch.. I never do play it because that is the thing that's missing. They don't do anything together. Not in the sense of a Netflix drama... They are just brainless Sims.
One of the mods I always try to download is a no jealousy mod so that they could have relationships AND express themselves with multiple partners if they wanted... but it seems like something that is banned in the core game. Even with no jealousy turned on they don't woohoo autonomously that often. I'd like to take a more hands off role and just have the game play itself in the background while I worked on my book or whatever and just watch the little ant farm of sims play itself.
But that isn't the game either.
I'm wondering since The Sims 4 is getting old if The Sims 5 is on the horizon. Given all these new VR and AR platforms popping up.. it would be really interesting to see if EA was planning a VR The Sims. Or even an AR version (for mobile and PC). Eventually a console version could work if they could represent the room you were in.
Just being able to assume control of a Sim and see their world from their perspective would be crazy.
