Guess I'm never going to upgrade my PC.. unless there's a major hardware failure.
I just don't like Sony.
And I feel shitty putting off buying another PlayStation since PSOne but it hasn't been about regretting missing out on PlayStation games or that I was testing PlayStation games and couldn't bring myself to buying the system (PS3)... or just a Biased towards Microsoft.
I hate Microsoft too.
Microsoft has just been the lesser of two evils. And frankly there have been more games on Xbox that I wanted to play that weren't available on PC. But when Sony has pushed Bluray, they tried a mobile handset, they are pushing VR and 4K.. just wtf is Microsoft good for again?
To paraphrase:
Our console works good this time and is generating revenue. -Phil Spencer
Congratulations! You did your fucking job! For once since the original Xbox. Now let's talk about that shit pile of a UI...
I know it's only adequate to the task and so we're pushing for it to be useful for everything home entertainment related. It now runs Windows 10. -Phil Spencer
That Xbox wasn't already running an on par version of Windows, and you know showing the BSOD has been a running joke for years, and that it doesn't support Win32 applications is one thing.. It's the thing we've been asking for since Hackers took over the original Xbox. But Windows 10 on Xbox running UWP apps? Close enough. We'll see what it means when the spring update rolls around and at E3.
I love that someone tries to pull an BUT of course you can play Xbox One on HoloLens.. and lost briancells from there.
Hey.. if in the same breath you can say HoloLens is an integrated computer but you have to run an app to stream games from Xbox to HoloLens.. how about.. Make a HoloLens for $1000 that runs Xbox One games.
But even then the point has been for a while now that Xbox One games are behind. AND IF AMD could create a gaming headset then gamers would be lining up to buy that, not HoloLens,
Oh wait,
Facepalm.
At this rate Microsoft has to have a strong announcement for E3.
But PS4 has many things going for it which I suppose at some point I would have bought one. But I have a Bluray player in the form of an HDDVD Bluray combo drive that hasn't seen any action is years.. because I just download everything. And I really have no interest in PSN games. Which is a complete lie.
I'm dying to play No Man's Sky.
So...
With one in the mail.. what's the real reason I bought it? With all kinds of rumors of both Xbox and PS getting upgraded models for VR and 4K, and HDR etc, I should just wait. There's no reason to buy one so late.
I'd like to think I'm just being selfish. Having more systems available means a chance to play more games and get away from Destiny and Ark. Horrible performance and the godawful Windows 10 based UI. Which only now is better than the old one but both were horrifically bad for so long it's a wonder anyone stuck through the preview period.
Why am I asking for PlayStation users to consider Windows 10 UI on PlayStation if everything Sony has built works already.
But I've played Ark all year and it seems likely that I'll be on Destiny on both platforms for a while to help people that need to run through the raids and PoE level 42, and whatever else. If there's any significant Ark community for PS4 I'll want to jump on that.
Assuming PS4 gets Ark before the fall that is.
I might consider swapping to PS4 for Ark simply because on Xbox the game is just godawful in terms of performance. Like each patch has double digit percent performance improvement but it doesn't do 10 frames per second so.. there's been no practical improvement.
So...
I'm willing to just say fuck it for Xbox. It was underpowered to begin with (though adequate for games being released for it) and until there are substantial announcement of upgraded hardware for Xbox One and PS4 so they can run really nice games, it might be interesting to run 3 new characters up to LL 40. And investigate some of the PlayStation games I've been missing.
I'm watching Meli play Ratchet and Clank and can't believe those are console graphics.. except that there's still a bit of lag.. as if the game is a bit too much for PS4. And that's the point, there's probably much more devs can do if they had 1.5 to 2 times the performance of vanilla PS4. Going to 4K, for real though, that needs more than just a 1.5x boost.
There are only a couple of friends left on my Xbox Live profile that I'd have trouble abandoning.. but I mean what choice is there really. It still sucks to have made good friends through Destiny and to have so many of them gone already.
I loved her and I love her still. He made me repeat that I'll always feel that way because there's no way I can forget her. But she's gone now.
So it feels like I'm ready to play Destiny again if only because putting all that shit in the past, I could do another run in Destiny without all the drama. Starting over on a fresh console with a larger pool of players just makes sense. Maybe I'll run across that one European lady again that ran TTK on both consoles like it was no big thing.... If only I could remember her name without diving into Bungie.net to figure it out.
If nothing else, as in if I can't find anyone to play with and don't enjoy the PS4 for the first few months, I can sell it.
Having not touched PS since I was a game tester though.. it'll be weird. There will be a period of adjustment.
