It has been forever since I've done a blog. So..since the last blog....
Feb: I went home for a few weeks to do a "recruiting" mission for the army. I really did try to do the job (which was just to talk about the deployment and what I do) but it was damn near impossible to schedule anything. So it was more just me being back home since the end of the deployment and seeing friends and family. And I started working on my sleeves. I have the big piece done on my right arm (it's the melody for a Charles Mingus song called Goodbye Porkpie Hat). So now I'll get the bottom part of my arm and fill in the extra spaces.
March: Work started to suck this month because some of the people I got along with were starting to leave. We also got a new boss who was very much an asshole for the first month or so. But, I went to Amsterdam with my friend, his wife, and daughter and got to see Starry Night at the Van Gogh museum (they had a special exhibit of van gogh). The week after that I went to Dublin for almost a week (during St. Patty's Day) and just chilled out. I hadn't seen my buddy dave since we both graduated college and I got to see a decent amount of the city, check out some music, eat some good food, and found out that I really dig Ireland (or at least Dublin). This month I also got my acceptance to Brown University for Grad School and was told that I was chosen for the scholarship I applied for as well.
April: This month was crazy. I was going to the hospital constantly for sleep disorders and did my last sleep studies in this month (I did either 8 or 9 since January). Went to Mnchen for an overnight stay with my friend Brian. Checked out a little fest thing that was going on at the Hfbrauhaus which was pretty cool and went to the Paulaner Braurei the next day for lunch before driving back. We also went to Dachau which was a very sobering experience. This month also started the second half of my PhD program....too much work to do here in Germany where it is so easy to travel.
May: Found out that on top of sleep apnea (I stop breathing when I sleep) I also have narcolepsy. This month is also the end of my time here in Germany and kind of in the army (I'm not officially out until the end of June, but because I am taking vacation I won't have to work for them again). So today was the day that I did all my last paperwork to be out of the army. Sunday starts my vacation. Unfortunately I had to change almost everything the other night in a couple hours, but I think there will be good from it. So here's what my final days in Europe will look like:
17-21 May - Paris/Normandy
22-23 May - Madrid (I get to see GUERNICA!!!!)
24 - 25 May - Barcelona
26 May - leave Marseille at 5 am get to Rome 8pm
28 May - Vienna
29 May - Prague
30 May - Munich
31 May - Frankfurt/Wiesbaden/Mainz
June 1 - I fly back to the states....
