Its facade gives the appearance of a beautiful building decorated with white lace. It was built towards the last third of the sixteenth century, when the Jesuits arrived in the city and established five schools for the teaching of Spaniards and Indians. The temple is one of the most important of the Republic, this is because there are only two Jesuit temples that were built in the eighteenth century and have great magnitude.
The facade consists of two bodies; the first is made in quarry and is made up of a portico with three openings in front, pilasters, cartouches, pads, boards, niches, medallions and few vegetal motifs. At the entrance there is a plaque in talavera that tells: in the main arch of this façade, the head of Don Antonio de Benavidez (El Tapado), false visitor of Spain, executed on July 12, was hung by order of the inquisition. 1684
Inside the altar is very important, which houses a sculpture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the marble altarpiece and behind the altarpiece are the 12 Apostles made in quarry. It is worth mentioning that in this church is the burial site of Catarina de San Juan, better known as China Poblana.
