interpol finally arrived in san francisco, for a while there, i did not think i would ever make it to the fillmore as all the downtown bus routes were extinct due to the chinese new year parade... when i finally got to the fillmore, i was suprised to see how diverse the interpol scene has gotten -- just as many (if not more) fraternity boys with their stussy t-shirts as boys in sweatervests and suits. calla was pleasantly enjoyable, reminded me a bit of death in vegas without the horns and electronic programming (as well as dot allison)... interpol came on stage and rocked through their set, saving obstacle 1 (my favorite track) for their final song. the whole way through, i could not help but think how they have grown into rock stars, comfortable with all 200 stage lights, playing in front of 2000+ fans... though their performance was brilliant, it seemed like it was sort of a packaged deal -- not the same raw energy, spontanaeity i witnessed bottom of the hill show last fall... but, as the first time, it was chilling to hear stella, say hello to the angels and the said obstacle, as paul sounds a bit too much like ian curtis...
next shows: mates of state, ryksopp, ladytron, delgadoes, broadcast and raveonettes... apparently, the music is not going to stop any time soon!
