So, I caved in from my stance on boycotting Tom Cruise and saw "War of the Worlds" last night. I just had to. Part of me wanted to hate it and part of me really needed to love it, I did neither. It was ok. I thought it captured most of the feel of the book. The special effects were fantastic. I probably should have seen it at a theater with stadium seating because the people in front of me were annoying the shit out of me. It kind of reminded me of Juraissic Park, except not as good of a story. But the idea was there in terms of big scary things scaring the shit out of you with big scary noises. Great sound in this movie. Oscar for sound and special effects for sure. And god damn, as creepy as Dakota Fanning is, what an invaluable thing to have a child actor that can really act. She really does elevate every movie she's in.
I also watched The Life of David Gale last night. Wow, I don't know what I was waiting for, but what a fantastic movie. I don't want to tell you anything about it if you haven't seen it, except see it immediately.
That's all of me posting into the abyss.

I'm with you on most of War Of The Worlds, for the most part. Spielberg did a great job of painting a bleak picture, Wells' story had that in spades. It was a clever update.
Have you read Jurassic Park?
