I normally dont mind going out and hearing words of endearment or attraction from men. Sometimes its appreciated. Im definitely not one of those people whos offended by damn, you look fine.
However, one thing I cant stand is getting honked or grabbed at. Mostly because I startle easily from loud sounds and dont like getting involved in conversations, whether youre hitting on me or not. Im a fucking hermit, so if Im outside among the general public, its to do something speedily. Also, Im not a touchy-feely, physically oriented person, unless its with my lady.
I dont know if men realize how women walk the streets. How weve heard whistles and mmm babys since we we hit puberty. You are not the first person to comment on my tits today. We walk to work with exit strategies in the back of our heads, with things like: this excuse works every time.
Its strange, there have been occasions where men literally grab my hand and walk next to me until I pull away. I never really thought about it much and have sometimes regarded it as maybe my tops too low today, or maybe I shouldnt have put on that lip gloss or maybe I shouldnt be walking alone.
But I just realized how fucking bizarre this behavior is today as I was walked behind this flamboyantly gay man without his knowledge. A car passed and honked, startling me, but I recovered immediately and forgot about it as a couple dudes shouted out the window Hey sexy!.
The man in front of me stopped and looked wildly around, alarmed by what just happened, then saw me OHH! I think they were shouting at you?! and gave me a perplexed and surprised look, as if this occurrence were something completely foreign to him.
Women encounter this almost every day, so Im never really surprised, but this mans reaction made me question if I too should startled by this behavior?
--Also, side note: what do guys get out of hollering?

The usual reaction ranged from being ashamed and apologizing to being angry and defensive. Maybe not the most prudent thing to do, but it sure was interesting in a quick and dirty social experiment kind of way.
But I really don't mind the shouts and cat calls.
