So I've written at least two full albums worth of song lyrics and have yet to tab 90% of them. In the recent past I've had to record the songs I play by other artists through a web cam with a mic in order to capture the audio. As you can imagine it was certainly terrible sounding as far as sound quality goes.
I've been somewhat inspired lately to start playing a little more and in turn have not only wanted to start working more on my own songs, but to also record them with obtaining better sound quality in mind. Lucky for me I already have a Numark DM3001X that I have been unsuccessful at selling for months that I used to use with my turn tables.
I ended up buying a pick-up for my acoustic and after buying a couple cables and such I was able to hook a mic and my guitar up to the mixer and the sound quality is tremendously better. I was going to record the audio on my computer, but because I was feeling a little lazy I've recorded nearly 10 songs, only one is my own, via my MP3 player that has a mic input and recording capability. I just play the song while listening to it on the headphones and I have the MP3 player hooked up to the other headphone jack. I record vocals and guitar on the same track for now, but I may do it on two tracks eventually. Just having the ability to control the volume of the mic and guitar so much in addition to the better quality I'm happy with what I'm currently using.
Next I need to get a damn mic stand though. I had to sit on the floor and hang the mic over my desk chair. Not that it had much of an affect on anything, but it was somewhat awkward. I have to bring the mic I'm currently borrowing back to a friend tomorrow, but I will have my own in a couple days because my dad is sending me his. It looks like all I need to do now is get a strap, a mic stand, and finish some more of my songs. I don't plan on ever being likable enough as an artist to sustain off of selling CD's, but if I could eventually find someone that likes my music enough to want a CD I will have succeeded in my efforts. I just want to be heard and enjoyed.
Eh, who knows what's in store for me over the next year. I only know I'm curious and I will do my best to enjoy what time I happen to have available to me.
Good luck to all of you in your goals too, by the way.
