We don’t perceive the truth of how things actually are directly, without distortion or illusion. Instead, we insist on seeing things as we would like them to be. We tell ourselves stories, and we live in our fantasies. By living in a fantasy we lose control of our life. It’s time to wake up and seek your true self.

This really makes me think of some things science has told us about our brains. What we see with our eyes is not necessarily what is there in reality. It is said its merely what our brain has attempted to assemble together and make sense of in a way we can understand. I would say the same goes with our identity, as you seem to be saying. There is this ideal self we see ourselves as, and there's also the worst of ourselves that we also see ourselves as being. But somewhere in between is who we really are at any given moment.
