Just had a great phone call with a model. I shot some stuff for her Zed cards a few weeks ago and she finally got back to me about the pictures, she hates them. Which, if youve done any shooting for models before, isnt all that rare. Most of them hate images of themselves, it really is quite amusing. And when they do like a shot? The shot is garbage. Its actually quite predictable.
Now, this model, if you can really call her that, is an interesting case since shes got extremely blocky facial features and what can only be described as narrow beady eyes. But hey, she wants Zed cards, she has money, who am I to say no? So her complaints about the pictures were My face looks too blocky and my eyes, I dont like the way my eyes look.
I really felt like saying Complain to god, not me. But that would be crass. So I asked her if she liked ANY pictures of herself that anyone has ever took, and she said shes hated all pro stuff but she has a few candid snap shots that she likes. So I have her email them to me. First shot, her hair is covering her jaw line and shes wearing sunglasses.
.
Okay, next one, she has her hand shielding her eyes from the camera flash, and again her hair is covering most of her face.
Im getting the idea that this is less about my photography skills and more about her hatred of herself. What the hell am I supposed to do? Photoshop her jaw out and give her some dark and alluring almond shaped eyes? Well then, wouldnt casting agents be peeved when she showed up at the casting call with a blocky jaw and narrow eyes?
People are funny.

At the very least, the characters in my work do what I tell them, mostly. I can't imagine what it must be like trying to get a model to do what you want him/her to do. Must be quite aggravating when you're telling them exactly what you want and they simply can't give it.
Heh. I'd try your Siren trick today, but my dentis is a sixty-year-old German guy. I don't think it'll work.
