Poem for Mary
Big wet snow flakes
hiding houselights across the lake
if the temperature keeps dropping
we'll have two to three inches tomorrow
time for a hot bath
after a long careful drive back from Ann Arbor
wishing I lived there or somewhere or anywhere
where I could walk with you in the rain
after seeing Jack Nicholson in The Passenger
discussing who the girl was
how much did she know
and about choosing a different life
and wanting to run from it too
so always running unless I could stop
at a caf for a cup of hot gunpowder tea
with you
