Sorry for not updating in a bit, but here is Norwegian Athletic Achivement no. 18:
Trine Hattestad - Olympic Gold in Javelin
Javelin (throwing a spear) is one of the anicient Greek sports, but we have a tradition for throwing spears going back to the Viking age.
What: On the penultimate day of competition in what turned out to be the best Summer Olympics for Norway since 1924, Trine Hattestad supplied our fourth gold in the 2000 Olympics, in addition to three silver and three bronze. The winning throw at 68,91 metres was the second best in her career, and it came already at the first throw of the competition. None of the competitors could stand up to the pressure, and the permanently smiling Trine Hattestad could celebrate in front of the 110 000 people crowd.
Where: Australia Stadium, Sydney
Why: Because she became Norways second woman to win gold in the Summer Olympics. (The first was Linda Andersen who won in sailing. In addition the female football team won the same year as Hattestad.)
