I am a rather wordy nerd, and somewhat contrarian (not, thankfully, in a curmudgeonly grouch kind of way. More of a court jester. I seem to have a strong connection with the Tarot card The Fool, I am reliably informed. And possibly Baron Samedi, if I recall the voodoo priestess in New Orleans correctly. I am a little fuzzy on that one. But she definitely singled me out of our group).
See what I mean - digression city. Still, it amuses the hell out of me, and I'm with me all the time, so it seems a good place to start with trying to be entertaining.
The point, and I may have one, is that I think I will attempt to be somewhat more circumspect in my blogging. I have tried this before and am not too keen on relating the daily events of my life. But boy do I have a blizzard of random thoughts, quotes, ideas, oblique references and things that, well, amuse the hell out of me.
It is this motley collection of ruminations that I shall endeavor to share. But I also warn that for my birthday last year I had my friend, who is a classics prof, translate what seems to be something of an inadvertent motto for me ("better late than never") into a suitable Latin phrase. Which she did. And not merely a word by word translation, but a suitably sourced and colloquial phrase:
Fully accomplished, if slowly or Abunde Actum si Tarde
I will also try to share things. Like this, for me anyway, highly addictive vocabulary/philanthropy site:
.FreeRice
Incidentally, the World Health Program at the UN does make positive reference to them on their website, so it, like me, you were deeply skeptical about the setup, well, at least the people it is purporting to help believe they are being helped. So that's something.
Oh and a tip - go with your gut and/or your first instinct. I have second guessed myself into error nine times (out of seventeen errors).
'till next time my unknown darlings
