Show Me How YOU Burlesque
differences between strippers, features and burlesquers.
Let me begin by saying, that I love all these ladies. Exotic dancers, Features whatever, they are all performers and talented in their own way. Im just here to let everyone know what makes us all different.
Not A Glorified Stripper
Burlesquers are not strippers (not hating on strippers, refer to paragraph above please). Choreographed routines with elaborate costumes, shoes, sets etc are rarely (if ever) seen in a strip club (exception is for Feature dancersget to that later). I was performing at a Nightclub in Las Vegas this year and a woman approached me, and said, ill be praying for you. Its unfortunate that a lovely girl like you has to sell her body on a stage. I was completely taken aback firstly because, what was this woman doing in Sin City Las Vegas Nevada if she didnt want to see some kind of debauchery? Second, I had just finished dancing to music by Nina Simone. not exactly Stripper music I may have understood her comment if i had danced to Porn Star Dancing or an awkward Britney Spears techno remix. Look at any video of a true burlesque dancer and then look at a video of an exotic dancer they are not even close to the same thing. There are countless hours of practice that go into routines or shows before they go to stage. At a strip club, a girl can walk in and poof shes a stripper.
Feature Dancing VS Burlesque
for those of you who have been to Corporate Clubs like Hustler, Deja Vu, Penthouse etc you may have noticed that from time to time there will be FEATURED ENTERTAINERS. usually these are Porn Stars or Some kind of centerfold from a well known adult magazine i.e. Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler etc. These can also be professional pole performers like Felix Cane or Janine Butterfly who hold titles across the world for their performances. I have performed as both a Feature Entertainer and in Burlesque.
No, I dont do porn. I have many friends who are performers and I love them all dearly.
one of the most amazing feature performers I have ever met was Nina Mercedez. She straddles the fence of being a feature and a burlesquer. She has choreographed routines and costumes custom music blah blah blah, Technically She is considered a Feature Star because she is a Porn Star, but in my opinion i think she is much more. her shows are amazing.
anyway the point im making is that (with the exception of a few) features are not trained dancers. Burlesquers (for the most part) have all kinds of dance backgrounds, from swing and vintage jazz, ballet, modern, and more. Burlesque is usually seen in a theatre setting, while features usually perform in Gentlemens clubs.
Can You Take Some Criticism?
Burlesque (Verb) to imitate in a humorous manner.
Its literally defined as a tease. Many people dont understand that, and dont understand what burlesque is. Ive been called many things both to my face and behind my back. There is a lot of criticism that comes with this industry, because when it comes down to brass tacks yes, I take my clothes off for a living. Whats funny about burlesque is that you never really see anything lemme break down a Burlesque costume
Corset, Skirt, Gloves, Hat, Boa, Bra, Garter belt, bloomers/ thong, nude bra with sequin pasties. how does it come off. Gloves, Hat, skirt, corset, Bra.aka all the goodies remain covered. Im never actually naked on stage. its just an illusion. the most that happens is that ill wear real pasties so technically ill be topless but not really.
anyway the point remains that Burlesquers dont get naked.

I wrote a blog about something akin to this on my Deviantart page. I questioned why our opinions of women tend to change when they express themselves sexually or by taking their clothes off. I questioned the sadly accepted practice of lowering our opinions of women when they choose to remove clothing. Its gotten a positive response so far. Keep it up, people are listening!
