A Sailors Sleepless night
Feeling alone, I stare into the heavens. As I gaze into the clear night sky my mind drifts off, finding a distant place. It is peaceful here and I am not alone. The memories of my past flood in. They bring joy to a stressful day. My mind clings to the memories in this place. Everything is perfect here. I find you a little quicker every time I come. You are with me now, no I am not alone. Your presence comforts me. I can almost see you sitting beside me on the fantail. I am thousands of miles from home yet you are never more than a thought away from my side. I talk to you for what seems like no time at all. I focus on the brightening sky. The morning sun is low in the eastern sky. We watch as the sky turns it spectrum from black and blues to the orange and reds of a new day. I must say good bye for now, duty calls. I hope you have slept well tonight. You have been with me all night and never knew. I will call on you again soon. On another sleepless night you will keep me company far from home, just as you have done a thousand times before.
