If you didn't know, I coach under 8s AFL team. And loving it.
Today's match was on a fairly 'moist' ground which can cause injuries if unlucky. You have 22 kids aged 5-8 going for the ball, some diving on it regardless of boots near the ball. Some say this is a recipe for disaster.
Well after 1.5 seasons as coach, we got our first serious injury today. The poor sod had to be helped off the ground after badly rolling an ankle. The referee and co-ordinator came rushing over the check how bad it was. There were parents getting ice nd elevating the leg....
Oh, relax it wasn't one of the kids that went down. Nope, it was me.
I remember looking down and thinking, 'I should not be able to see the sole of my foot like that'
There was much fuss made, parents helped me RICE and I continued to coach from the sideline on my butt.
Wasn't until after the game and the wife taking me to see a medical expert did we find out that I had torn the Anterior Talofibular Ligament (ATFL)
Good news is the advice given was continue RICE, have Ibuprofen and beer will help. After a 6 pack you now have this post
