So yesterday I started a new part-time job. I was asked to be the high school racing coach for the non-profit where I volunteer. It's a great challenge and I'm looking forward to it. Yesterday's first day of practice was simple orientation and boat prep. The kids really bought into it and, even though the day was perfect for sailing, stuck in and got the boats de-rigged, cleaned, sanded and then waxed. We've got 20 kids in the Fall team, more than half of whom will end up being junior varsity. This is more because they just don't have the experience yet to race. I've been a soccer coach and camp counselor before but that was years ago and I've never coached a sailing team. Hopefully my own sailboat racing experience and my coaching experience will be enough to do a decent job. Luckliy, I've a got a great group of assitant coaches and I'm looking forward to getting them to the point that one of them will hopefully replace me. Once i find a full time job I won't be able to do this, so I want to make sure that one of the assistant's is ready to step up and take over.
Wish me luck!!
Wish me luck!!

It is good to be able to pass some of your knowledge on to kids. And hope that they can build on it and have some great adventures of their own. A very cool opportunity, good luck.

Oh man, I don't know if I could ever handle working with high school kids.
