From out of nowhere, I got really sick at about 4 Am last Friday. I had the chills, a mild-grade fever and my left elbow was starting to swell and turn red. I got up took 4 Motrin tablets and went back to bed thinking I was just getting a cold or something. By 8 Am, my elbow was swollen and I was beginning to get concerned. But since I had clients and cases scheduled for that morning, I went about my day until about 1:00 PM. Thats when the doc in my office building told me I needed to get my but into the ER as soon as possible. I showed him my elbow and he was really concerned. So I got in to see my regular doc, and he immediately sent me across the street to a orthopedic surgeon. Within 10 minutes, that doc informed me I was being admitted to the hospital right away. He said that I was experiencing a rapid onset septic bursitis. I had never heard about this, but from the way it was hitting me, I could not really argue the point. At least it was not the flesh-eating virus, I think. Any way, I was given IV antibiotics and remained in the hospital until Monday morning. My arm is still tender but not as sore as it was on Saturday. My elbow grew to almost twice its normal size. What a weekend. And me without any health care insurance.
