It's been a crazy couple of weeks, but finally the master plan seems to be coming together. If I had known it would be this tough, I'm sure I would have done things differently, but hey... life is.
And this country seems to be getting madder all the time. People wonder why I don't let my cats out on their own, and why my dog is nearly always on the lead. Am I a neurotic over-protective pet owner, anthropomorphising them into my fur children? Or is my approach simply the cautious one.
Well this last week we've had a chance to find out. I'm sure people have seen the You Tube where a middle aged woman dumps a tabby cat in a wheelie bin and slams the lid. Argument has raged back and forth over this.
I do not ever advocate bringing harm and suffering to anyone or anything. Not even this mindlessly unpleasant woman.
However, How we treat the least of us in society, the weakest, points to what we are as a society. This woman chose to treat a harmless little creature with despicable cruelty, she clearly checks to see if anyone was likely to see her before doing it, thus negating any of the arguments that her "head was in another place" or she "was not aware of what she was doing", her apology (ahem!) has also pointed to an unpleasant fact... she thinks because she did that to a cat that it doesn't matter. All actions have consequences. For those of you who think animal does not matter as much as human... please remember the worst serial killers in human history began with animal cruelty. If you tolerate this, then your children will be next... it might be a line from a song... but that does not make it any less true.
