this will be my personal year end list, because i'm posting my snarky/overly-intellectual one in my artblog.
1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before? london, paris, the jameson distillery, hoegarrden, gwar/slayer, the revolting cocks, msi, finally listening to coil, being a part of a performance piece, got a piercing, being paid for art for the first time ever
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year? nah. i think it was actually just to draw in my sketchbook for ten minutes a day but that's kind of beside the point as i kind of stopped doing image-based artwork. i'll probably make some personal resolutions this year but as a rule i try to limit it to under three.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? ha no but i saw a video of an ex-girlfriend's spawn on myspace for the first time and that's close enough in my book.
4. Did anyone close to you die? nope, we're all still here.
5. What countries did you visit in 2006? ireland, england, france, canada
6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006? more than two parties that don't end in noise complaints or write-ups for setting off the smoke alarms.
7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? the day i got my grant approval and ate lamb at the bank of england pub with sean, seconded closely by the day i officially won zak smith painting.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? putting myself back together in a way i am very satisfied with
9. What was your biggest failure? not leaving london with british friends of my own making is tied with missing out on tool at wilkes-barre and camera obscura ten bajillion times
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? one hilarious rash from london's hard water, a burned hand from everclear fireballs, a scar on my elbow from being tackled into the pavement by one gordon higgins. the rest was metaphysical.
11. What was the best thing you bought? a tossup between my drawing and my dyed-blue woodland camo coat
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? sun robinson's.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? this is too obvious to require an answer.
14. Where did most of your money go? food. sunday markets.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? art, for the first time in a long time
16. What song will always remind you of 2006? i can only narrow it down so much:
this shit will fuck you up by combichrist
the pot by tool
triple sun by coil
oh, and the first note of rio grande blood by ministry and the entirety of with teeth and broken by nine inch nails
17. Compared to this time last year:
Happier or sadder? cosmically happier
Older or wiser? older and wiser in ways last year me would have never imagined
Thinner or Fatter? hm, this is tricky. i want to say fatter but that's only because i'm mentally comparing myself to being way thinner this year for reasons that didn't start until january, so i'm probably breaking even at the moment a little bit on the fatter side thanks to my atrocious finals-week diet.
Richer or poorer? poorer, but richer in spirit and trinkets
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? sweet potato pies, because i am amazing at making those. also, more paintings this summer.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of? moping. bitching to everybody in earshot.

22. Did you fall in love in 2006? twice!
23. What was your favorite TV program? garth marenghi's dark place
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? if you toned "hate" down to "would warn them if they were about to be hit by a truck but not too loudly" then yes
26. What was the best book you read? a dead heat between what should i do if reverend billy is in my store? and lost cosmonaut
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? coil. close second: isis, though technically i first found out about them at the very tail end of last year. third: the third ministry album. also notable is realizing that i actually like throbbing gristle.
28. What did you want and get? my zak smith painting
29. What did you want and not get? a synthesizer of some kind. parallax view by slavoj zizek
30. What was your favorite film(s) of this year? if footmen tire you what will horses do, la jetee, sympathy for lady vengeance, jackass 2, and chirpy.

32. What would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? winning the lottery and escaping my debt load. having a financially reasonable reason to stay in london. a few more commissions.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005? tshirts and jeans that actually fit me! lo-key urban hipsterism, conventional hair dyed unconventionally
34. What kept you sane? sun robinson, sean watkins, and cary peppermint
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? ogre though he hasn't done at all this year, zak smith despite his self-admitted faux-celebrity-ness, banksy just because.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? the immigration debate mostly for the sheer idiocy of the rhetoric. watching the president begin his downward spiral. the right-wing vitriol come election season. and despite it all still no fucking universal health coverage.
37. Who did (do) you miss? jeremy david fix, tim hogarth, and as always renee and the yamamotos
38. Who was the best new person/people you met? new person? sarah r. (tee hee)
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006: life kicks far more ass if you walk, for some reason.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: (sweet jesus this is a hard one.)
The deranged midnight stalker says it/Garcia Lorca says it/The hit man, Walt Whitman/And the haliototic talker says/Babe, I'm on fire
- nick cave and the bad seeds "babe, i'm on fire", though a better choice would probably be some post-rock instrumental or another for the sole reason of seeming intellectual without actually committing to anything. besides, lyrics always look so moronic in print.
but there you have it!
