have a theory on relationships, not well researched nor founded in any scientific basis.
When you first move to a new area you are keenly aware of everything around, as it is new and unfamiliar. But over time you become used to the sight and sounds of the nieghborhood. And eventually it takes an exreeme change to garner your attention.
I believe relationships might possibly share this trait. In it's newness you take in and appreciate all the wonder of the new person you are with. But if you are not careful, eventually you start to look past that person. The longer you look past them the less you appreciate all those things that were the wonder of thier being at first. So if and when the end of the relationship arrives it comes as a suprise to some. Thier complaicent attitude does not prepare them for the severe change and loss. Perhaps only after this do they remeber what brought them together in the begining. I believe this is where the regret of lost love truely come from, remebering the details of the person, who was looked past for a little too long.
