This is probably not the right forum for this, as this site is somewhere to visit to escape a little and to forget real world issues, but I wanted to get this off my mind. I find it hypocritical how everyone is saying their "thank you" to those working in the front lines of what we are experiencing, particularly here in North America. Apart from the medical community, many of these front line workers are those that earn on the lower end of the pay scale. Hospital administrative staff, food service, warehouse workers, delivery, grocery store employees, etc. These are largely minimum wage or slightly above minimum workers. In Canada, where I am from, and in the US, there is always a Conservative push to keep minimum wage salaries low. Now, our society is relying heavily on these people for support and survival, and they say "thanks". Some have received a small increase in pay, but its only a couple of dollars. Really not much when considering the risk they are taking just by travelling to work on buses and subways. Or coming into contact with people at work, or products that are somehow exposed.
I wonder if there will be a call to increase minimum wages, which will push up all wages at the lower end of the scale as a default. I doubt it. More and more the new jobs being created are in the warehouse and menial labour sectors as the Amazons of the world take over.
I know, wrong content for this site. My apologies. Take care of each other.
