For those that knew him..
I would like to start a Lance Samol tribute myspace.
Lance Samol was a great friend of mine from high school, and a great influence on my life who passed away on Sept 11, 2006, just two months before another amazing lady passed from this earth on Nov 11, 06', Jamie Ricker.
For those of you that knew Lance you know how amazing and talented he was with so many of the arts. As a sort of ying and yang to each other during high school and college, we challenged each other. He is also the reason I started to make films.
A few of Lance's short films, I converted last year to digital video and wanted to make a page for him. I think this should be part of the tribute page.
In doing all of this though, I think it will help me deal with the guilt of his passing that I still have. I was on my way to see him in Kentucky on the way back home from my Oklahoma trip when I found out he had passed away. I've wondered what kind of conversation I might have had with him just a week prior.. though I had decided not to call, and simply show up. Alas, this kind of surprise was not to be.
I know though, that it was probably for the best. As the last we spoke many months prior, he had physically declined, to point of having little ability to move about, and had as well lost his eye sight. I know he would have wanted me to remember him as he was only 12 months prior.. a joy! (and had been dancing with me at the Upstage!)
Largely though, I would like to celebrate his life, and show other's his work. I feel slightly responsible for this, as there was no public funeral (to his parent's wishes), and Mrs. Samol (his mother) asked if I would tell his friends what had happened. As many had lost touch with him since his illness.
Anyhow, I thought I would mention this, and ask as well, to those that knew him: What would you put on a tribute page for Lance? or if you have content, please supply me with whatever that may be.. audio, video, or images.
That is all.
Thanks,
NtS
