Yeah, that sounds about right. Fedoras, magic amulets, flights of fancy . . .

It's a fake adventure-hero alter-ego I came up with a few years ago. If you check my RexPhantom's pics folder the very last one is the first thing that came up, a few moons ago, in a Google image search for "Rex Phantom."

OH--I'm an undergrad, but I'm a tutor in the Fiction Writing program. I get to give grades and such.
olsen:
Did you ever read the Harry Potter books? In one of them, they talk about the most horrible torture you could ever inflict on a person: taking over their control of their own body. I really agree with this. If you were ticklish you would know what I mean. You literally lose control. Some people may like this, but to me it is something parallel to being raped. I'm not speaking in hyperbole, I mean that very literally. That is the connection my mind makes.

Boy thing knows this about me, but he forgot for a moment.

And worse yet, he didn't just play-attack me, he attacked for my vagina......which really just adds to the problem.

I think it's a pretty good program. It can only take you so far, but it's not like film where they can teach you how to use all the right equipment and introduce you to producers and such . . . the Fiction dept. can point you in the right direction artistically, but then you have to go to your room, by yourself, and get the work done.

Columbia Gen Eds are mind-numbing.
rexphantom:
Wow--that's fantastic. That would be a great history class to take.

Irvine Welsh was there the semester before me--I haven't taken any of the seminars yet, but I think whoever will be there next fall will get to see my face.

Hey! Your cartoon, while it was up, was great. Easily the best birthday comment I got.

Will you teach me to dumpster dive? This is going to sound totally geeky, but I've admired dumpster divers from afar ever since I heard an article on NPR. Yup, that was totally geeky. I'm so not punk mad

back to the city. saw a nice scene in the tunnel today. a scruffy looking black guy with a guitar and nice raspy voice was singing some christmas song. some little white girls and their mom who look like they dont belong are watching. he sings to the little girl "are you a ballerina?" and she shakes her head ya, and he says "well then...

your welcome. 27's been a really tough year: both good and bad, with lots and lots and lots of transitioning. I'm really looking forward to turning 28 on Saturday...... kiss
ladymaze:
Heehee...well, Claremarie found you first and told me to go say hi and happy b-day to you. Hehehe.

You're welcome, from one of the pretty girls. (Yes, I'm very humble.)

i was up all night last night.
it's an everyday thing trying to accept the fact that hitting the big time with art is like winning the lottery. chances are its just not gonna happen. and whether it does or not is beyond anyone's control. if you dont have the right influences, teachers, or if you're not in the right place at the right time...

Happy Birthday kiss
An artist continues to struggle for the satisfaction of doing what one MUST do, for your own personal satisfaction, and if others can appreciate it--that's just an added bonus.
rexphantom:
YoYoYo--I saw your post in the Chicago group. I live Uptown too, and most recently I've been writing comics for money.

I really liked the 2nd drawing in your pics folder, of the dude with fingers for legs and an arm--it's creepy, but cartoony, in a super swell Mike Allred sort of way.
