It's Halloween Month and that means Halloween Movies all month! I am watching and blogging about Horror/Halloween movies all month long.
Today's Movie Blog is:
Donnie Darko
1. This was My first time ever seeing Donnie Darko. I went in very excited to see it but made a critical mistake. I got myself nice and cozy on the couch with a blanket, dimmed the lights, and lit a pumpkin spice candle, setting the mood for a spooky Halloween Movie Night in. So far excellent. Then I made my mistake. Earlier that day I had picked up a shatter cartridge at the dispensary (If you don't know what that is.... it's for vaping to get high from marijuana). In the spirit of relaxing I took several hits as the movie opened. And now if you have seen Donnie Darko, and you most likely have- you are probably rolling your eyes smiling at me knowing this was worst movie to get high and watch for the first time. I don't really know what I was expecting..... a psychological thriller about a giant evil bunny I think. Which surprisingly, I was fine being stoned for. But I was not prepared for a few things: like fucking time travel!
2. On that subject can we just acknowledge how weird THESE scenes were while stoned?! Watching these slinky portal things coming out of everyone's chests had me messed up.
3. I'm the kind of twisted girl that immediate found myself deeply attracted to that evil dark smile of Donnie's. I've never found Jake Gyllenhaal particularly my cup of tea... (I'm more team Maggie) but I had never seen him make such a sinister face. Yes please I volunteer as tribute!
4. Speaking of volunteering as tribute- it was cool to see a young Jenna Malone as Gretchen. Although she claims not to be an angry person her character as Johanna Mason in the Hunger Games is unforgettable!
5. Overall I rate my experience with Donnie Darko as 80/20. That is that 80% of me loved the film and found it haunting, beautiful and at times a bit relate-able ( I too have mental illness and deal with medication). But 20% of me (partially the stoned percent) was utterly lost. I followed the entire storlyine for the most part- until like most of the world- it ended- I said WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED?! And yet... I'm left with 80% of me loving it.
What a trip
