So as of yesterday evening the Islington nightclub Fabric has been forced to shut its doors by the local council. Reasons for closure. In what appears to be a pre-planned move from the council and local police (using drug related deaths in the venue as a scapegoat) to most likely promote redevelopment to put money in following massive budget cuts. I, personally, have never been to Fabric (preferring rock/alt clubs and venues), but am dismayed as yet another venue is closed down. 50% of Londons clubs and 40% of music venues have closed in the last 8 years. Soon the nightlife/music scene that London is world famous for will be no more.
Rumour has it that the museum of London will be rebuilt in that space Click her though most likely it will get the Hacienda treatment (turned into luxury apartments).
