Here's my story of beating Dead Space 2 on Hardcore mode that I had posted on another blog a couple months back...
Well I got the special edition of the game, so it came with a suit and force gun to start with (suit had 15 inventory and 5% damage with the force gun to start with). Another thing that helped out was downloading Dead Space Ignition and beating it once (arcade game for XBLA and PSN its very short game 25 to 40 mins to beat, interesting story that leads up right before Dead Space 2) will unlock content for DS2. It opens up 4 doors in the game that were previously locked, all have goodies such as power nodes, money, ammo, and circuit boards to sell. Door 2/4 has a schematic for the hacker suit which gives 10% armor, 15 inventory space, and one less part to hack during hacking sequences (suit costs 20,000). Door 4/4 gives a schematic for the hacker contact beam (its free) 5% more damage on secondary fire. I didn't use the hacker suit but I used the hacker contact beam.
(heres a pic of the hacker suit and hacker contact beam)
So anyways the guns I used were force gun, plasma cutter, ripper, and contact beam. The first things I upgraded were suit and stasis, best to get those 2 at least half way before upgrading guns. Then I started upgraded the force gun, that gun is great because its easy to get loads of enemies at once with one shot because of the wide blast (I used it the most). And slowly upgrade the contact beam (make sure you have the gun fully upgraded before the final boss) the secondary fire is the best when fully upgraded because it shoots a blast at the ground and freezes everyone around you. And when you have extra power nodes upgrade the ripper and plasma cutter a little. The only things i ever bought were power nodes and force gun ammo (cheapest ammo cost 900). Health and ammo are at their rarest so try to stock up and put health, ammo, and stasis in storage when you can. When ever you upgrade your guns at a table make sure to keep one power node at all times to open supply rooms, the items in the rooms are totally worth it (and they usually have a power node to grab) The three parts I saved at were Chapter 7 (disc 2) right before the elevator sequence with the tripods in the windows. Next I saved at chapter 12 right before you go on the giant driller with Ellie. Last I saved at chapter 14 right before the door that leads to chapter 15. There's so much pressure before the first save because (especially if you trying to save far in game on your first save) if you die you start right back at the beginning of the game, and you have to re-watch the cut scenes over again (you can't skip kinda annoying) There was one time I died before my first save, died in chapter 4 then had to start over. But just take is slow, don't rush or you will die fast, conserve ammo and use kinesis to throw sharp objects at enemies when you can. Its best to play through the game twice before attempting this because you'll get a better idea where enemies will be coming in and out and how to deal with it. Well hope this helps anyone who attempts this feat (quite a challenge, but fun) have fun!
