As stated in my survey entry, I got a blue Nano for Christmas. Holds 1,000 songs. What to fill it with?
Growing up on Long Island, we had WLIR which became WDRE--the holy grail of radio stations. The best music was played on DRE. I pride myself on being somewhat of a music snob of the alternative scene. I thought back of times spent in the art room after school with the other fine folks of the Art Club at St. Anthony's. These were the must listen albums as we were being creative (in no particular order):
Morrissey "Viva Hate"
The Smiths "The Queen Is Dead"
The Cure "The Head On the Door" and "Standing On A Beach--The Singles"
The Pixies "Doolitle"
Sex Pistols "Never Mind The Bollocks"
New Order "Substance"
Depeche Mode "Music For the Masses" and "Violator"
Sinead O'Connor "The Lion and the Cobra"
I've put those in the iPod. Listening to those tunes brings back so much. I didn't really dig high school. I didn't really enjoy things until after I left NY and moved south. I remember Long Island fondly for pointing me in the right musical direction.
I am also an unabashed Duran Duran freak. At least 75 of the songs on my iPod are them or their various side projects.
"How Soon Is Never?" by Marc Spitz is a wonderful read. Highly recommended especially if you like dwelling on the past like me. It's about a music journalist trying to convince the Smiths to reunite. Good stuff.
Listening to some of the stuff out there now, I know their influences.
Sheesh, hope I didn't make myself sound old in this one.
