My beautiful baby girl was born September 25th, 2006. She was 7lbs. 130z. and 19in. long. Here are some pics and our "birth story".
"On Sunday the 24th, Nick and I were watching a movie at home. About halfway through I started to have contractions... I didn't think much of it because I have been having false contractions for the past two weeks before. By the time the movie ended (about 6:30pm) I realized that no matter how I changed positions they were still coming. I tried taking a hot shower.. everything. I had Nick time them but they weren't very consistent. Then... Wham! Just like that they were so strong I couldn't talk or walk through them. Nick called the Hospital and we headed down.
Once there they verified that my water had broken and yes I was in "true" labor. Everything seemed fine for the first few hours. There was a little dip in Shelby's heart rate but it seemed to come back up. When I was pushing, however, she would come down partway and then go back up! We weren't getting anywhere! Then we really started having trouble with her heart rate. It was dipping down to about 80 bpm when she needed to be at, at least, 120 bpm. Now it was staying low too. It was then that they told me we would have to rush into a c-section.
During the surgery I heard them say that her umbilical cord was wrapped around her shoulder. I think that's why she wouldn't descend... it kept pulling her back. They got her out safely and were able to revive her.
She was born at 7:44am on Monday, September 25th. She was 7lbs. 13oz. and 19 in. long. And she is beautiful!!
She had to stay in the nursery the whole time we were in the hospital because she was on IV fluids (and antibiotics because I developed a sudden fever in labor). I didn't get to see her until the next day but Nick visited her whenever he wasn't with me and brought me updates and pictures. Then she was able to come to my room for feedings and visits.
Shelby is doing wonderfully now! She's perfect. She's eating well and gaining weight. (My can that girl eat!!)"
