I just read your big rant. I generally agree with what you said, but I think you may be ascribing more significance to the whole thing than it deserves. Your reaction is the same as mine to all the smiley faces, teenage drama and Internet loser types. That's because you're a mature adult (as am I). But even mature adults need a little guilty pleasure, don't they? It's kinda like me taping my toe to an Avril Lavigne song when it comes on the radio.

I just think that people like you and me (since we are so outnumbered on the site) need a little more time to sniff around and find kindred spirits to be friends with. And believe me, I fully understand the difference between an "online friend" and a "real" one but still, it's nice to meet new people of any description. I hope you reconsider, since I'll miss you.
