A friend tagged me with one of these on Facebook. I loved the idea so much I carried it over here.
Think of 20 albums that had such a profound effect on you they changed your life or the way you looked at it. They sucked you in and took you over for days, weeks, months, years. These are the albums that you can use to identify time, places, people, emotions. These are the albums that no matter what they were thought of musically shaped your world.
In no particular order:
1)Agent Orange, Living in Darkness: The song "Everything Turn's Grey" really hit me.
2) Big Audio Dynamite, This is Big Audio Dynamite. Founded by Mick Jones after he left the Clash, the experimentation of this group broadened my horizons.
3)Cake, Comfort Eagle. What an incredible lyricist.
4)The Clash, Give 'em Enough Rope. Music of political awakening.
5) Dead Kennedy's, Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death. Shocking, powerful.
6) The English Beat, I Just Can't Stop It. One of the earliest and most important ska revivalist groups.
7) Eve 6, It's All In Your Head. This is fighting music, no other way to describe it.
8) The Jam, The Sound of the Jam. More incredible Ska.
9) Joe Jackson, Look Sharp. It was hard to pick just one. One of the best live shows ever.
10) Madness, One Step Beyond. Just plain fun.
11) Rage Against the Machine, Renegades. I can feel the anger.
12) The Ramones, Mania. I picked the compilation album because I love it all.
13) Rancid, And Out Come the Wolves. Third wave Ska that carries on the political and social battles started by the revivalists.
14) The Sex Pistols, Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols. Their songs are a history of the time.
15) The Specials, The Specials. All time favorite Ska band. More than any other album, this one could be said to have changed me.
16) Suicidal Tendencies, Institutionalized. I so identified with the title song.
17) The The, Soul Mining. Another incredible lyricist willing to push it to the edge.
18) Violent Femmes, Violent Femmes. Raw and full of angst.
19) X, Los Angeles. One of the founding California punk bands.
20) Sublime, Sublime. Yes, they are.
