Another hot date yesterday - with one of the teachers at the school I teach at. She's really cool, very intelligent and independent, she's as tall as me, and she's a hottie. She spent some time in Victoria and Vancouver a couple years ago, and she's been working at the school for about eight months. We'll see how things go.
We ate at a new Italian restaurant not far from the school. Good food.
Movies this week - I watched "Grindhouse" again. "Planet Terror" is still just a dumb-but-extremely-slightly-better-than-average zombie movie. Upon further review, "Death Proof" really seems to suffer from shitty performances from the actors. It was like watching the episodes of CSI that Tarantino directed - TV actors are pretty shitty, generally, and they were pretty shitty, specifically, in DP. Some of the dialogue was really poor too - "I resemble that remark," "I'm too old for this shit." Fuck.
New music this week - as I type this sentence, iTunes is playing My Friend Goo (Sonic Youth.) But that's not new music. I've been downloading lots of ambient music (Brian Eno - Ambient 1, 2, 3, 4) and some electronic stuff (Battles, The Fields, The Knife, Efluvium.) Nice stuff. I hadn't listened to Music For Airports in about ten years. Please check it out.
I'm currently staring at a Tshirt I bought this afternoon. Two indie-rockesque chicks (toques, long hair, and they're hotties in an American Apparel kind of way) are ordering food together at a Burger King or McDonald's. The captions read "Let's stay friends," "Let's go to a fast food place. Fast food is good!" "What would you like to eat?" The Tshirt is covered with smiling little cartoon TVs and Coke cans and hearts. It's so cheezy, it wouldn't be out of place in Adbusters back home. Soopercool.
The Festival of Fear has announced that Dario Argento will be this summer's guest of honour. George Romero (he lives in Toronto now) will also be attending. Hmmm. I can't fly home for the festival, so I guess I'm going to miss out. Sadness.
That's it. Lover's Rock is playing now. Groovy tunes. I have to clean my apartment this afternoon - I haven't done anything since I moved in except sweep the floors every week or two. Enormous heaps of offal and dung currently pollute my environment, so they are best dealt with. I didn't bother checking out the topmost kitchen cupboards when I moved in, since I don't do much cooking here. The teacher that used to live here left some potatoes in one of the cupboards, and they had grown roots as long as my fingers. I've seen a pair of big, black, thumb-sized beetles in the apartment over the past week. One was so big, I could hear it move - it's legs skittering over the tiles next to the kitchen sink. Bleeeeech.
-hey.
