can you imagine what it would be like to have something work for a change? like - the first time?
its been a while. usually its all about the configuring and re-tweaking and duct tape. sometimes i feel like macgyver [yeah thats my spelling - deal with it] and other times more like that hacker guy in the movie hackers - yeah - that one. the geek that gets lara croft.
..and -sometimes- there's a bit of tinkerbell, but really - that doesnt have anything to do with what im talking about.
anyway, you know how you have to jury-rig stuff to get it to work? what would it be like if after you fixed a guys car, or made his computer work - they went after it with a fine tooth comb? looked at every seal, every connection - every drop of solder or every knot..and i mean microscopically. yeah there are mistakes. can you see 'em? nope.do i need to fix 'em? apparently.
now imagine that the job isnt DONE. imagine that as you are fixing the roof, the car, the wall, wrapping a present etc - that halfway through someone inspects it and says 'oh this is wrong! YOU NEED TO FIX THIS NOW!' how would that feel?
now stay up til 2am a few nights in a row to get halfway there and have them do that. kind of like a kick in the pants, huh?
now the best part - how about the problem they are talking abut, that you are struggling with until the wee hours - is actually NOT YOUR FAULT. yeah, like the person who is complaining, they actually made the problem happen. you just gotta fix it.
then how about you politely demonstrate that there is a fault in their system -- the roof you are building as per their spec has bluprints that are wrong..the present you are wrapping for them is the wrong thing they purchased..the wall they told you to build is in the wrong place. the car - they drove the wrong one to the mechanic..whatever..
and the response is - "oh yeah, you might be right, but its still not my problem".
cool, huh? glad i'm wasting my life to fix your mistakes, and take the heat for it - jerk.
fun times.
i gotta get a new gig...
