The SLC adventure continues with...SG-SLC Curry-oke!
Met up with TheGil tonight for a night out on the town. Yes, Salt Lake does in fact have nightlife, although not nearly as much as Austin.
Still, Providence was kind enough to arrange a show by a band I'd actually been keen to see in person--the band +/-, featuring James Baluyut of Versus--so we kicked off the evening at Kilby Court, a small and very hard to find punk/emo/indie venue in the midst of a bunch of warehouses in SW SLC.
The show was a little disappointing because Margaret McCartney is no longer the bass player for +/-, and Margaret is *HOT*. I've had a crush on her ever since I saw one of the first-ever shows by her old band Tuscadero.
Anyway, despite Margaret's absence the show was good. Lots of excellent tightly-controlled noise chaos dovetailing into beautiful melody from the boys of +/-.
Afterwards, we caught a couple of songs from the headlining band Lovelife, who performed lit only by candlelight and had a sort of hardcore/goth fusion thing going on, complete with an Ian Curtis-esque female singer who was certainly doing major damage to her voice with all of the squeaks and growls and screams she was emitting.
We then repaired to a karaoke bar Gil haunts on a regular basis, where we could actually drink something other than soda. Nice place, very friendly--no stage, just a wireless mike that gets passed around in the bar.
Hung out till last call and a good while past, then headed back here. It was a good time, and Gil's a remarkably nice fellow. If you're ever in SLC, look him up. (Check out me and Gil in the profile pic.)
So that's the story of how, for at least one night, SG-SLC had two members instead of only one.
