Long time no update, huh? I've been working pretty hard on my latest project and, as always, trying to scrounge something resembling a life in the meantime.
Just turned 21 a few months ago, so now I can drink whenever I want without shoulder-tapping. That's fun. So far I love me a whiskey sour more than anything.
I'm also looking into Deism. So far, it's the "religion" I like best.
Now for something I've been thinking about.
Blogs like this are a breeding ground for ego - whether it's blowing up ones ego, or trying to get others to feed your ego... or just giving your ego a place to dump excess. Whatever. I wonder how making yourself available to people all around the world like this affects you.
I recently played a video game that had a lot to do with conspiracies. In the game there was a machine that data mined via every communications device on the planet - i.e., it kept a database of any information that was every outwardly expressed about you. The main character complained that people wouldn't like that, that they required individual freedoms - and the machine said back, very matter-of-factly, that people like that illusion, but just as no man is an island, no man wants to be unknown or unshared.
Independence, I guess the kind we want, means the ability to do what you want, not necessarily to be in total control of yourself. To be truly independent would mean to be free of media influences, of desires, of petty lusts and such -- but none of us really want that. We want to satisfy those desires and petty lusts.
Ugh, none of this is new... but sometimes I like to just clear out some of that excess junk in my head.
