Why my job is sometimes infuriating . . .
I got a call about a disturbance in the parking lot. When I arrived, Casino security informed me some guy was beating on his girlfriend, slapping her and putting her in a headlock. They asked them to leave. Top-notch work there, fellas.
The couple was walking off State property. I began escorting them out. This guy was a scumbag. They kept arguing and he kept threatening her. Unfortunatyely, I can't do shit about it unless I see it happen.
He was saying he was going to beat her. He accused her of flirting with me, and ratting him out, and said he would beat her if she left him and got another guy. He said he wasn't scared of the cops and would gladly go back to prison.
If he had gotten pissed off enough to swing at her or me, I could have taken him down and fed him my fucking baton. But he didn't. So I couldn't do shit. The woman did not want medical treatment and she was mentally aware and physicaly able to communicate that to me. So I couldn't do shit.
I de-escalated the situation as best I could.
I kept telling the woman she did not have to leave with him. She could come back to the office with me, and we could either call the police or someone else to come pick her up. She said no she would go with him.
She told me she was scared of him. I told her to please come with me and let him leave. Then I could have done something. She wanted to go with him. So I couldn't do shit.
All she had to do was tell me that she wanted me to protect her, in any way, and I could have taken the guy out and cuffed him.
But no. She left with him.
I called the police when they were off property and told them who they were, where they were heading, and hoepfully they sent a squad car. I watched them until they turned a corner. I had a feeling when they were out of sight he was probably going to beat on her again.
Off State property I'm nobody, just a civilian. If I had seen him hit her off property and ran to help her, I'd have caught a shit-storm of trouble for it and probably lost my job.
I would have done it anyway.
I need beer.
(Oh yeah . . . and eleven goats were stolen today.)

It always bothers me to hear about situations like that. I hate seeing women in situations where they are afraid to do what they know they need to. A guy raised his hand to me ONCE, and I left and never looked back...but I know so many women that get into that "I can change him" thing. It makes me sad. I wish you could've helped her more...but as long as she doesn't admit she wants help to get out, you and no one else can do anything.
I still think you're cool, though.
....you're a gemini, like me...
I was in Albuquerque last summer for an anthropology trip with college...we went all over the Albuquerque/Santa Fe area, and visited Chaco Canyon. It was a really great trip. New Mexico is BEAUTIFUL!
