Imagined being lost in the field today--eerie feeling that I could wake up some morning and forget where I was. That I might not make it back to base and in a rush lose the path. Sounded good.
Field season is just now picking up and I'll be in the field for days at a time. My girlfriend, Jennifer, is working in Wyoming and Colorado tracking wild horses and she gets to stay out for months--not days--three months alone with horses. She's got a trailer packed with supplies that she parks on ridges where she can scan valleys for horses, then tracks them for dominance behavior studies.
This has got to be better than going out for only several days at a time. The only thing that being home does for me is to re-introduce me to comfort. After three days in the field, I feel like staying in the field forever. After one day at home, I feel like staying at home forever. Better to stay in the field, a better kind of comfort, a security of distance, independent, no unimportant thoughts out there.
