I guess the hot topic this week is Canadian federal politics
I personally don't like all the controversy and scandals that has been going on over the past few years, 4 years ago, we had to spend a lot of money to denounce a few rich fat cats publicly with the Gomery Commission, and well after about a year of investigating and close to 72 million dollars, we were able to put the blame on a bunch of CEOs and publicists, but mostly on the Liberal Party. that controversy made the average canadian voters angry against the Liberals and pretty much looking for a change in power, and no one could trust a corrupted party that lost tracks of 332 million dollars (who would??), so on election day in 2006, we elected a Conservative minority government. They won because the Liberals fucked up... 2 years later, after lot's of George Bush ass kissing and bashing the arts and culture, we had an other election (about 7 weeks ago). This time, the stakes were a lot higher because of the fear of the world economy going to shit (meaning that if we had elected a majority government, it would have been be in charge for the next 4 years, cutting back fundings everywhere and blaming their actions on the financial crisis.). Overall, what happend is that we spent hundreds of millions of dollars playing a grown up version of the musical chair, the conservatives won a few, the liberals lost a lot, but basically, we ended up once again with a Conservative minority government. 7 weeks later, Harper's budget plans pissed off everyone, so were back to another confidence vote, and once again the possibility of another costly election.... but this time around, all 3 opposition parties have agreed to takedown the conservatives together, the liberals and NDP have formed a coalition that the Bloc Quebecois will support for 18 months...this new union could takedown the gouvernment and run the country with Stephane Dion as their leader, it would represent over 62% of voters as the majority and save us from another election (the 4th in 5 years)...but the choice is up to the representative of the queen to see if this coalition can run effectively or if we'll have to spend another few hundred millions for elections, in about a month and a half, we'll know....
Personally, I am for the coalition, I do not want the conservatives to run the country in these so-called "rough financial times". I do however question the integrity of this coalition, I think we all sould... Dion is hungry for power and would really enjoy putting liberals in charge after what happened in the Gomery Commission, brigning a much more positive image on a dying party, Layton will do anything to side with the winnig team if it helps the cause of the country (and that's a good thing!) and Duceppe generally just loves to shout obscenities at whoever is in charge,....he will side with anyone as long as it means bashing whoever fucked up.
So, my answer to "who should run the country?" would have to be: Anyone except Harper's faggy conservatives. And if we could stop playing the "hundred million dollar musical chair" for a few years, that would be great!

I was a bit high!
Speaking of economy I just read an article about a state (I forget which one) solving their economic problems by making their own currency, and selling it to encourage local buying, as the money will not be valid in Wal-marts and Co, but will be in the local stores. While I appreciate their try at helping out local stores and such, I mean it's a valid and original idea, I'm concerned about how their gonna sell the money so that if let's say we have a US 100$ bill, their money will be worth 110$. Now tell me that won't cause mad inflation and in the long run ruin their economy even more....
Sorry I know this has nothing to do with Canadian politics, I just had no one to share it with and I wanted to tell SOMEONE about it before my short term memory deleted it from existence.
