With the launch of the brand-new site for The 4th Wall, I have added yet another blog to my ever expanding list of things to update. Like my Creative (and hetero) Life-Partner, I have been a fan of online journals since back in the 1990s when they required a brand new page to update, and had cool names like Angelfire and Tripod. Often though, these would be passing things in my life, and often abandoned after a few months. Im happy to say now that I quite enjoy the whole blogging thing and its become an integral part of my life. It had to, just based on the sheer number of them that I have to update.
One of these blogs is of course, the one associated with The Watchtower. Im very, very excited for this weeks episode because its all about our feature interview with the one and only Kevin Smith.
Kevin Smith has always been a hero of mine because at his core, he is about telling a good story. Be it in movies, comics, or any of his three hilarious Evening With DVDs, Smith has a way of telling a story that not only entertains, but truly captivates a person. His work is easy to identify with and so often very sweet, but wrapped in a wonderful vulgarity.
Donnie and I had a chance to talk with Smith on Monday, and what was supposed to be a 15-minute interview lasted over an hour. At which point, CJAD needed their studio back, so I had to bail. But Kevin, being so very generous with his time, continued to chat with Donnie in Toronto for another half an hour! Hes an incredibly candid and honest man, and is exactly the person youd expect when you chat with him. In fact, I almost hesitate to call it an interview because it really was just three guys shooting the sh*t for a while on the phone.
Ive edited it all down, and it will be this weeks episode of The Watchtower. You can also hear it Friday at 11pm EST on Newstalk 1010. An unedited, full-length version of the interview will be up on The Watchtower site next week.
So often in life we meet people we admire and find out that they are jerks, and couldnt give a damn one way or the other. It really makes me feel good to find out someone I admire is exactly who they appear to be.
