So.

We play this game in the firehouse, known as "buckets".

It's very simple. Each man is his own team. You fill a 5 gallon drywall bucket with as much water as you can carry, and then you hide out in some aerial location, such as:

the pole hole- this is the little closet area, above the sliding pole, and when someone walks underneath it,...

OK.

So yesterday (Friday), I worked my normal 24 hr. shift. During the dayside tour (we break them into to 2 tours, day and night, for differentiating the periods when some peeps are working overtime...long story...fuggedabadit...just trust me.), the Ladder Company never turned a wheel... Which is to say, that we didnt have any runs. So, one of the guys who worked the previous day,...

Today.

Today I received news. Horrible News. It was the notice of my legs being kicked out from underneath me, and my gut, wrenching itself into a sinewy little ball of pain.

Both of these occurred immediately after I learned of a very good friend of mines untimely passing. In January.

To make this all even worse than it already is, I also find out...

I'm sorry to hear this news too. I have a friend who tried to off himself recently. Thankfully he didn't succeed. The worst part for me is that I had no idea he was so depressed. He had gotten some psych help before he did what he did, but apparently the drugs didn't help enough. It's very sad when someone you care about is in emotional pain like that. I hope your friend's death wasn't like that.

Good day yesterday.

Rolling Thunder was un-characteristically surreal.

By that, I mean, heres the scenario:

Approximately 100-200,000 RUB's (Rich Urban Biker, not an honor to be named such), throw in about 100,000 true to life hardcore motorcycle enthusiasts, throw in about 1000 of your 1% 'ers, and then probably 20-30,000 average motorcycle riding Joe's. All of the aforementioned folks, are screaming down Constitution Ave.,...

unfortunately, i think im a rub. or mub (middleclass urban biker)
boheme:
Yeah, are you going to the burlesque show? I wouldn't miss it.

I love your account of your Rolling Thunder ride, hanging with your dad, and just living life in a good atmosphere. Sometimes D.C. gets that magic.

Both you and I are 33, and we have dads who were in Viet-Nam. I went with my dad to the Wall to do wax rubbings.

I wonder what the VERY BEST DAY of your life was . . . .

Well...I'm back from Bike Week....And all I gotta say is:

What a Fucking Major Disappointment.

frown

There were way too many $90,000 Choppers, towed behind a $40,000 Escalade/Tahoe/Excursion, on an $8,000 trailer.

Almost nobody RIDES to Bike Week anymore.... What The Fuck? Over!

I was disgusted in a matter of two days time...I even left early... It was mostly a bunch of guys, cranking up the...

Well, the first 500 miles sounded like good times -- too bad the "culture" has commercialized. Bunch of duds, which are not what's in your gun. Nice to meet ya. wink
boheme:
Well, you've just about summed it up in regard to Front Royal. Lots of bikers up here this weekend, using the locale as homebase for the Mem Day activity in D.C. Nice to see the town buzzing.

Well-

I havent updated my journal in sometime. Tonite will be a very quick update, since I am dog assed tired from a 36 hour straight tour of workin in the hood, and I really need to sleep, but I really wanted to read all my friends journals. So. A couple of my FDNY Buddies came into to town, and we went over to the...

Y'know... I used to absolutely love the job I had. Until they cut back on employees, thereby screwing us up. And now they're rolling out some retarded software packet that doens't even work right!! It's the people I work with that make it so good. My old manager moved up to the center director. She is one of the coolest bosses I've ever had. And quite the looker too!

Were it only so simple to follow your stress-relief plan!!! It is not. I don't like to drink until I pass out or puke. Just a nice steady buzz. Dancing will have to substitute the sex for now. I really don't want to hook up for a one-night thing. I hate that shit!! And I don't want to hook up with any exes either... Bleh!!

Thanks for the advice, nontheless. Where do you work again?!

Well...For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a fireman...ever since I was a kid. After I got outta school, I kinda milled around, travelled around the States, and a little bit of Canada, but mostly the US, never forgetting that I still just wanted to be a fireman....None of the jobs I ever had, seemed as fun or interesting as...

Well. work was actually BORING yesterday. No fires. No shootings. One stabbing. And many drizzunks. ManyDrizzunks. I only got soaked twice, but I crushed several of the others, so all in all, I had the best score by the end of the day. I think I was 3-2-0. Anywho. Now that I'm checking this thing on a regular basis, I guess I'll start writing...
