20

In January 2020 I fulfilled a childhood dream when I was chosen to go to work at the South Pole Station for two weeks. When I was 10-years-old, I read a book about Roald Amundsen, who lead the first successful expedition team to reach the bottom of the earth in 1911. I still remember lying in bed thinking, 'I wonder what it's like at the South Pole.' The 3-hour journey for us via an Air Force LC-130 flew over the 3500km Transantarctic Mountains (TAM). It's the most spectacular landscape I've seen since driving the Alps & Dolomites through France, Italy and Switzerland. This is a handful of what I was able to capture through my camera lens. The final photo in this album is our arrival at the South Pole - perched at 2835m (9300ft), it is flat white for as far as the eye can see in every direction. Ice for days! Enjoy!
